A Tithi is a lunar day defined as the time taken by the longitudinal angle between the Moon and the Sun to increase by 12°. There are 30 Tithis in a lunar synodic month: 15 in Shukla Paksha (waxing bright half) culminating in Purnima, and 15 in Krishna Paksha (waning dark half) concluding in Amavasya (Aunsi).
